The management team of the Irish Masters O40’s have named their squad for the upcoming Masters World Cup which will take place in Rotterdam Hockey Club from June 5 to 13, running alongside the FIH World Cup taking place in the Hague.
The groupings for the World Cup will see Ireland compete against Australia, Netherlands, Wales, England, Zimbabwe and South Africa with cross over matches to determine final placings.
“With such numbers expressing an interest and attending training/trial sessions it’s been a tough decision to whittle the numbers down to 18,” Frank Byrne said of the panel.
The squad includes some highly decorated players including Paul Fitzpatrick and Clinton Murphy who won everything in the game with Glenanne with the former lining out a number of times with Three Rock Rovers this season.
Gordy Lindsay won the Leinster league title with Rovers, too, back in 2003. Master of the boards, Paul O’Brien is included after a superb season with Railway Union’s thirds, winning Leinster’s division four while Lisnagarvey legend Julian Stevenson – one of the magnificent seven – is a lively addition up front.
Ireland O-40s: Gordon Clarke, Michael Clarke, Peter Creighton, Clinton Murphy, Gordy Lindsay, Mark Wainwright, James Fahy, Michael Pobloth, Ian Stuart, Paul Fitzpatrick, Stephen Bredin, Stephen Magee, Eise Lodewijk, Paul O’Brien, Brian Downes, David Wilson, Julian Stevenson, David Jenkins
