Ireland shared both the boys and girls Under-16 three-game series in Dundee over the weekend, each side winning, drawing and losing one game a piece in front of good crowds in fine weather.
On the boys side, Scotland got off to a confident start, winning 5-1 against Ireland. The young scots were only 1-0 up at halftime from a penalty stroke from Dean Baber but they soon found form in the second half, Ruairidh Grossart scoring two followed by Cameron Golden, then Andrew Webb making it five with Andrew O’Hare’s the sole reply.Ireland bounced back well in game two but were denied a win as they let slip a 4-2 lead, eventually drawing 4-4. Again, most of the action came in the second half after Baber’s stroke had Scotland one up at the break but Ireland replied with Andrew Tutty’s calm push from the edge, Kyle Marshall’s corner rebound, a sweet team move finished off by O’Hare and a Guy Sarratt drag-flick put Ireland ahead.
Ruairidh Grossat scored two more goals with Callum MacKenzie scoring the fourth for the Scots to tie things up.
Ireland held on in game three though for a 2-1 success with Sarratt scoring a peach of a goal with a delicate lob over the out-rushing Scottish goalkeeper. His powerful slap-shot added to the scoring with Cameron Griffiths getting the Scots’ goal.
On the girls side, Michelle Barry and Ellen Curran helped Ireland win game one 2-1 before the two sides shared game two 1-1, Kathryn Edgar’s goal cancelled out by Ella Watt.
Charlotte Watson’s double won game three for the hosts 2-1 with Emma Mathews on the mark for Ireland.
