The Teresian School landed the LHA Schoolgirls Senior One title last week as they saw off Holy Child Killiney 2-1 at Grange Road before just missing out on a prized double.
Co-captain Rachel Dillon got them off to a great start before Evie Regan made the game more comfortable in the second half. Judy Deane got one back for Holy Child but Teresians held on for a nail-biting 2-1 win.
Each clash between the two sides over the past few years have been very tough and close and so each team knew exactly what they were up against. Indeed, they played out a cracking 3-3 draw in the group stages of the competition and both made it through from Section A with Teresians top and Killiney just a point back.
And they played out another entertaining tie in front of two fantastic sets of supporters who entertained by both teams who created plenty of chances in an end to end battle with the Dublin 4 side eventually prevailing.
They missed out on the double when they were undone 2-1 by Loreto St Stephen’s Green a week later but Regan said afterwards that her side were delighted with their season and it will spur them on in future
“After an extremely tough match Loreto came out on top, of course our team were disappointed to have come so close, however we had to accept that it was not our day and be content in the knowledge that we had fought it out till the end, given our best effort, ensuring Loreto were always on their toes.
“We had to remind ourselves that reaching the final was a huge achievement in itself, we have improved in every single match since the beginning of the season, the successes of the past two weeks prove what we are capable of and give us the determination to achieve even more next time!”
