Loreto Stephen’s Green, in their first Senior final for a number of years, claimed the Schoolgirls Senior Plate with a 2-1 win over Teresians at Grange Road on Friday.
They got off to a quick start when, with about five minutes gone, a move down the right ended with Sarah Torrans finding Ellie Wilde free in the circle who calmly finished to make it 1-0 to Loreto.
The rest of the half was a fairly even affair with no real clear cut chances for either team, Teresians did however win a couple of short corners which were well defended.
The second half started in the same vain with neither team dominating the play, Loreto increased there lead half way through the second half through an individual effort from Torrans and under increasing pressure from Teresians, defended their lead till the end. Teresians scored a short corner with the final play of the game to get one back but too late for them to force a shot at extra time.
It meant the Dublin 4 school missed out on a rare double having already annexed the Senior One league a week earlier with victory over Holy Child Killiney before beating Alexandra College in the semi-final of the Plate.
