Brilliant Brown fires 23 goals in Ards Euro gold run

Chloe Brown strengthened her reputation as the biggest exponent of the indoor game in Ireland with a truly stunning performance for Ards at the EuroHockey Indoor Club Champions Challenge I in Budapest last weekend, landing the top scorer crown and player of the tournament title to boot.

In total, she scored a monster 23 goals in six games – including three sets of five goals – to see Ards lay waste to the opposition in Hungary. They started with a 5-2 win over Lisbon Casuals on Friday morning, backing that result up with an 8-0 results against the hosting Agyse with Brown scoring five.

She added a further pair in a 5-4 win over Sweden’s Partille in game three on Saturday, the Irish international netting a final second corner to claim the win from the tightest of their outings at the event.

A comfortable 12-0 win over Serbia’s HK Bask put them within a result of promotion going into Sunday’s final set of games. That initial target was achieved with a 5-2 win over Welsh side Howardian, Brown netting three times.

It left a straight battle for gold with Hockey Club Zrinjevac from Croatia who were dismissed 7-3, Brown scoring five once more with Katy Bennett bringing her tournament total to six goals with a brace.
