Both teams started strong with Alex having the first of the clear-cut chances however it was High School who broke the deadlock.Julienne Stewart pick the ball up on the 25 she raced through the defence and squared it to Lucy Barlow who finished superbly. Alex slowly got a grasp on the game with Milly O’Donnell’s crash balls and Amber Gleeson’s skills proving difficult. High School were composed in defence but Anna Roopnarinesingh soon equalised with a reverse stick shot into the bottom corner.
High school came out fighting it the second half despite going 2-1 down early on to another of Roopnarinesingh reverse stick shots. Saoirse O’Donoghue showed her class, controlling the game from the sweeper role.
The equaliser came with 12 minutes to go when Emma Canning gave a through ball to Stewart who skinned the last defender and slotted home. High Sxchool had a couple more chances to go ahead before the goal came from a run of short corners that, after a initial mess up, O’Donoghue finished well with a rocket to the bottom corner.
Alex, winning two short corners on the final whistle, had their chance to steal a couple of points however High School defended well and claimed all three points and suggests they can be cup contenders in the New Year.
