Town IJC defence starts at Corinthian; Pembroke bound for Randalstown

Monkstown II’s men’s Irish Junior Cup title defence starts off with a trip to Whitechurch Park with a tricky first round tie against Corinthian II in one of the big games of the opening round following yesterday’s draw.

They won the title last spring with a final victory over Banbridge who will host Kilkeel in Havelock Park. Elsewhere, there are a number of Leinster derbies with YMCA II vs Fingal II a big one while Avoca host Three Rock and Glenanne play Clontarf.

The students of UCD and Dublin University have big away days against Cork C of I and Cookstown on the cards while Suttonians travel up the M1 to meet Belfast Harlequins and Railway Union go to Cliftonville.

On the women’s side, Pembroke II face a trip to 2010 winners Randalstown in their first round title defence. 2013 finalists Loreto received a bye as have Genesis. Railway Union and Old Alex both must win in Cork if they are to advance to round two while Corinthian host Banbridge and UCD face Ashton. Glenanne and Hermes is the one Dublin derby.

In the men’s Irish Hockey Trophy, Brian Scully’s Weston travel to Campbellians in the only round one tie with a home date against Clontarf – whom the Lucanites beat last weekend – the prize for the winner.

On the women’s side, Muckross go to Irish Hockey Challenge winners Kilkenny while Weston face Newbridge with nine Leinster clubs receiving byes to the second round of the competition while NICS have gone straight into the third round hat after being initially paired against Lisnagarvey who were mistakenly included in this draw.
