Irish goalkeeper David Harte has been included in a list of 59 ‘overseas’ players including 27 Olympians who have signed up for the Mini Players Auction/Closed Bid for the next two editions of the Hero Hockey India League.
The draw is scheduled for November 18 in Delhi with eight overseas goalkeepers on the list in addition to a list of 10 Indian goalkeepers vying to be bought with suggestions a sixth team will be added for the 2014 season.As such, he will hope to get the nod from one of the franchises ahead of the likes of Australia’s Andrew Charter, South Africa’s Rassie Pieterse, England’s George Pinner and New Zealand’s Hamish McGregor.
Last year, 50 overseas players were signed to the league in addition to 70 Indian players while this year, there are 154 players who can be bought in the auction.
The salary cap for the lucrative, one-month competition, meanwhile has been increased to €75,000. This potential earning figure for has attracted some top stars including England’s Barry Middleton and Mark Gleghorne, Spain’s Ramon Alegre, Argentina’s Gonzalo Peillat and Germany’s Oliver Korn to the auction.
No Dutch players, however, will be involved in the 2014 edition of the competition. The league will be played from January 23 to February 23.
