Alexandra College made it two wins from two as they fired home three times in the first half of their Leinster schoolgirls’ Premier League tie with Loreto Foxrock.
It added to an impressive opening day 3-1 win over St Gerard’s and puts them well in contention in the seven-team group along with Rathdown who also have a perfect record thus far.
Alex started brightly against a very well organised Foxrock team who defended their circle well, allowing few chances even though they did allow their visitors the bulk of possession.
After a sustained period of probing in dangerous areas, they finally won a first penalty corner which Rachel Gray smashed a straight strike into the bottom corner. They maintained the pressure and won a second corner from which Anna Roopnarinesingh snapped up a rebound.
With Millie O’Donnell and Pia Diepman controlling distribution from the back and Foxrock forced to become more attacking, spaces started opening for the forwards.
On the counter, Roopnarinesingh eliminated a couple of defenders and drove along the left baseline, drawing the goalkeeper before laying the ball off for her sister, Sophie Roopnarinesingh to score.
The half-time score of 3-0 was not augmented as Foxrock defended well and kept the Alex forwards at bay but it did continue the Milltown school’s good start to the season.
Rathdown, meanwhile, moved up to nine points by virtue of Karla Ray’s solo goal against King’s Hospital. It adds to their opening week 3-1 win over High School and a 2-1 success against St Gerard’s.
It makes them and Alex very much the sides to beat for the two semi-final berths on offer, especially as they are not due to meet until the second last round of group games.
Wesley, meanwhile, top the opposite group after they ran up a 3-1 win over St Andrew’s in midweek, building on their 4-2 win over Mount Anville in round two.
