Girls interpros switched from Connacht to Munster

** Words from Alan Good
The girls U-16 and U-18 interpros were last night switched from Connacht to Munster following the western province’s decision to withdraw from hosting the tournaments.

Garryduff in Cork will now be the setting for both tournaments, which will run over three days from October 18-20, a significant boon to the respective coaching and management teams.

DSC_1267The unavailability of a second pitch in Galway was at the root of the problem, with initial proposals from the Connacht Branch suggesting the U16 tournament would be instead moved to Sligo.

While this would have broken new ground for the competition, the decision to run the tournaments over three days instead of two – more akin to the boys competitions – and the new location in the north-west raised concerns over travel distances and costs for the other provinces.

Once Connacht pulled out of the running, Munster and Leinster both offered to host, with Ulster opting not to do so given they are hosting the boys tournaments just a couple of weeks later.

With Munster due to host next on the rotational agreement, Leinster were happy to let the southern province have the tournament. Fixtures and other details will be announced in due course.
