Cats aim to retain Neville Davin Cup

The competitive Leinster hockey season will get underway on Saturday in Mount Temple with six teams contesting the rejjgged Neville Davin Cup.

This season, the competition has been switched to a preseason blitz-style event with division two sides – whether first or second teams – invited to take part.

Reigning champions Kilkenny have been included in Pool B and face 2011 champions Clontarf along with newcomers YMCA II. On the other side of the draw, two-time champions Avoca are up against Weston and Monkstown II.

Games will be played in 25 minute halves with the winners of the initial group phase progressing to Sunday’s final while there will lso be classification games for all sides involved.

Saturday

Pool A: Avoca vs Weston, 10am; Weston vs Monkstown, 11am; Avoca vs Monkstown
Pool B: Kilkenny vs Clontarf, 1pm; Clontarf vs YMCA, 2pm; YMCA vs Kilkenny, 3pm

Sunday
Classification matches:
3rd Pool A v 3rd Pool B, 10am*; 2nd Pool B v 2nd Pool B, 11am; Neville Davin Cup Final, 12pm

* Should Kilkenny be in the 3rd vs 3rd game on Sunday, this will be switched to 11am.
