Hamburg Masters, day two
Ireland 0 Netherlands 4 (Constantijn Jonker 3, Mink van der Weerden)
Constantijn Jonker’s second hat trick in two games powered the Netherlands to a comfortable 4-0 win over Ireland to inflict a second heavy defeat at the Hamburg Masters.
He nabbed his fourth goal of the tournament in the 16th minute off the back of a fast break, the only strike of a reasonably tight-knit first half on a day when Mitch Darling made his 100th appearance for Ireland.
Jonker extended the lead almost immediately after the break and Mink van der Weerden made it 3-0 from a corner in the 44th minute.
The win was complete with Jonker’s third with 15 minutes to go amid a flurry of green cards while the damage was limited by Dave Fitzgerald with some strong saves, particularly from Billy Bakker.
