Women’s Leinster Division One/Two Playoff
Trinity 2 (Hannah Clark, Avril Dooley O’Carroll) Genesis 1 (Molly Sheridan)

Trinity retained their place in women’s Leinster division one with a nervy win over Genesis who had finished third in division two this term to earn their shot at promotion at Beaufort last Sunday.

The students, though, had the greater know-how after their season in the top tier against the youthful contenders in front of a large, boisterous crowd. Trinity started the better winning a series of penalty corners, one of which Hayley O’Donnell saw saved off the line, before the south Dublin side fought back, creating good chances of their own along with a couple of corners before the half-time break.

None were converted and it allowed Trinity to hit the front early in the second half when Avril Dooley O’Carroll drove down the left and put away with the help of Aisling Burke to ease the tension somewhat. . Genesis were reduced to nine players when Suzanne Murphy took a yellow and skipper Kate Quigley was sin-binned for her side’s behaviour on the sideline.

Trinity doubled up when Hannah Clark who snapped up a corner rebound. But Genesis fought back, hitting the post before they got a lifeline eight minutes from the end when Molly Sheridan, pouncing on the ball mid-circle to slot home.

They piled forward but could not nab a second as Trinity clung on to their place in the division.
