Leinster made a strong start in the Masters Interprovincials at Three Rock Rovers, beating Ulster in the first three matches on Friday night in Grange Road.

In the ladies O-40s, Leinster beat Ulster 3-1. Ulster opened the scoring when Shelly Lyons scored a penalty stroke after the ball was stopped on the line by a Leinster foot.

The blues replied when Annie Lawlor cracked in a reverse strike after good work down the right. They scored their second goal through Kerry Johnson with a corner strike and Gillian Garrett completed the scoring following a sweeping move down the left.

At O-45 level, the first half remained scoreless with both teams creating chances but unable to convert as Pamela Chittick in the Ulster goal and Sinead Guilfoyle in the Leinster goal both made important saves.

In the second half Leinster came to the fore, scoring twice from penalty corners. Joanne O’Grady scored the first off an intricate switch and Roly Burke the second from a switch left. The third goal came after some great passing, Orla Bell winning the ball in the middle of the park, passing forward to Ali Pigot who swept it left to Carol Anne Bryne, she squared past the advancing keep for Joanne O’Grady to net her second.

In the only men’s game of the evening, Leinster O-40s beat Ulster 3-1.
