HockeyConnect showed its potential to benefit the hockey public as Bray-based Adrian Boehm, The Hook’s star photographer, linked up with Clearlift Mechanical Handling in Ulster.
Explaining the situation, Boehm said: “Central Pump Supplies had a requirement for a forklift for handling heavier pump consignments in our warehouse. As we were joining HockeyConnect I asked Ronan if there were any Forklift companies signed up.
“Clearlift in Northern Ireland were subsequently recommended to us, we found them very helpful and they came up with an ideal second-hand stacker unit that was within our budget. We would not have come across Clearlift had it not been for HockeyConnect, and we definitely saved money.”
It shows the strength of the initiative which is seeking to bring together the Irish hockey public while raising funds for clubs.
HockeyConnect is born out of a desire to give something tangible to the ordinary members of the wider hockey community and to help promote hockey in Ireland. Its goal is about connections and networking – it’s about grassroots hockey, club hockey, participation, belonging to the hockey family.
It encourages members to do business with affiliated HockeyConnect businesses with those businesses providing good deals, discounts and better value to fellow members. Similarly, it provides a platform for businesses to advertise to the wider hockey community.
Funds for clubs are raised through annual subscriptions which are only €10 per individual member or €150 per business affiliate.
You can join on-line at www.hockeyconnect.ie, where you choose the club you wish to affiliate to (that’s how the clubs get the funds). There is a special introductory offer extending membership to 16 months before renewal.
HockeyConnect is designed to give value to all its stakeholders:-
saving you money – raising funds for your club – more customers for business
Once members sign up on-line they can search the business listings by logging in with their user name and password. The new initiative is endorsed by Irish women’s senior captain Alex Speers who says: “I think it’s a great idea and will do everything I can to help to you with it.
“Over the last few months we have seen the hockey community come together for the men and there is definitely massive capacity for hockey businesses, players and the community as a whole to support each other through HockeyConnect.
“The initiative of the clubs being the beneficiary is a great one.”
