Well-known Leinster hockey figure Geoff Walker has extended his empire , taking over the running of the French and Surf Academy, previously owned by Alec Barrett.
Walker brings his experience of running a range of hockey and multi-sports camps under the GW banner for the past number of years.
The French and Surf Academy has been running since 2008 offering students a unique environment in which to receive expert language tuition alongside top class surf instruction in the idyllic setting of the French-Spanish border town, Hendaye – just 30 minutes south of Biarritz, France and north of San Sebastian, Spain.
Walker has been working with Barrett since June 2012 to ensure a smooth changeover with 2013 offering a Spanish course for the first time with the company now called “The Language and Surf Academy”.
They will offer Junior and Leaving Certificate revision courses, exam-focused notes and daily individual mock oral/tutoring. They welcome all surfing standards with most students to date being beginners.
Speaking about the course, Gonzaga College student Andrew Stanley said: “I had a brilliant time overall. I met loads of new people, my level of spoken French improved immensely and the surfing was just incredible.”
Our Lady’s Bower student Jennifer Walsh added: “I had the time of my life. My French improved so much both in oral and written. Definitely worth while, wish I could go again!”
The courses offer a lowered teacher:pupil ratio of 1:15 on both the Leaving and Junior Certificate courses. As such, there will be 15 places on the Junior Cert French course; 15 on the Junior Cert Spanish course; 15 on the Leaving Cert French course and 15 places on the Leaving Cert Spanish course.
** For 2013, the price has been reduced to €899* for a 10 day course as part of an early bird/group of four or More booking.
