Glenanne – Women’s Division One preview

Last Season: Seventh, Division One; Irish Senior Cup second round; Jacqui Potter Cup first round
Coach: Nikki Symmons (1st season)

Players In: Sophie Conroy (Three Rock Ladies)
Players Out: Dearbhla Kieran, Catherine Murray (both not playing this season)

Summary: For Glenanne, international concerns of a different kind to the rest of the league may see what is a reasonably settled squad undergo absentees from time to time. Clare Shillington’s century last weekend in Ireland’s cricket team’s triumph at the ECB division two county championship final meant she missed playing any part in preseason. Mary Waldron, meanwhile, will try and balance playing in the FAI Women’s National League with Raheny United with Glenanne’s division one campaign.

Nonetheless, Nikki Symmons takes on a panel that provides a battle for any opposition with Audrey McCormack providing the energy in midfield. They will miss Catherine Murray and Dearbhla Kieran who have both stepped away from playing this season but the likes of Cathy Brock, Kate O’Connor and Lucy Small up top mean their is a strong panel from which Symmons can build on with Noel Keogh providing a wealth of knowledge as the team’s assistant.

Sophie Conroy adds to the goalkeeping options, moving across the M50 from Three Rock Ladies. The Glens’ derby date with Loreto will be a tough one on week one but game two against North Kildare will probably provide a more accurate test of their credentials.

Early season fixtures : Loreto (a), Sept 15; North Kildare (h). Sept 22
