Eight newcomers see off Wales

Women’s Senior International Challenge match
Ireland 4 (Audrey O’Flynn 2, Sinead McCarthy, Chloe Watkins) Wales 0

Eight new caps helped Ireland start their preparations for the Champions Challenge I in earnest as they wiped out a similarly new-look Wales – who fielded seven first timers – in the first of three games this weekend at Belfield.

Sinead McCarthy netted on her return to the side with a dipping penalty corner strike in the fourth minute from Anna O’Flanagan’s good build-up work. Audrey O’Flynn whipped home drag-flicks either side of half-time to extend the lead to 3-0.

Chloe Watkins finished off the run from close range in the closing stages to close out the 4-0 with Grace O’Flanagan and Sammy-Jo Greer sharing a clean-sheet on debut.

They were joined in the line-up by Naomi Carroll, Ali Meeke, Sarah Greene, Nicola Gray, Leah Ewart and Katie Mullan who all made their first appearances in a senior international jersey.
