News in brief: McRoberts in BC panel

** Former Lisnagarvey man Alex McRoberts has been included in the British Columbia ‘White’ team to play in the Canadian National Senior Championships which get underway on Friday in Tannawis Park on Friday.

McRoberts moved to Vancouver in the wake of Garvey’s run to the 2011 IHL final, falling ultimately to Banbridge, before linking up with the West Vancouver club.

After an impressive debut season, he has been named in one of two BC sides – the other being the “Blue” team – that feature international stars like Rob Short, Anthoni Kindler, David Carter and Mark Pearson.

He had joined a sizeable Irish contingent in Vancouver with Kate McKenna (Genesis), Aisling O’Neill (UCD) and Linda O’Neill (Bray) all lining out for the Jokers club in the city.

Former Corinthian player Maeve Willoughby was recently named the Jokers player of the year while ex-Victorians’ player Andrea Gibson has also held the role of junior head coach and coordinator for one of the largest junior sections in Canada, responsible for over 135 junior teams and over 1500 kids.
