The View Up North: NICS and Kilkeel share top

Ulster Men’s Premier League
North Down 0 Mossley 3 (Colin McLean 2, Ryan McCrea)
North Down slumped to their fifth defeat in a row and, with all the big boys still to play, they must now be feeling precariously close to the edge as they drift further behind the pack. In the five games to date, they have only found the net once and have shipped 23 goals. A home game against Mossley would have been targeted as a potential point earner but yet again their inability to prise open clear cut chances was evident.

Mossley were rarely troubled and Colin McLean found the net twice to ease any nerves. Ryan McCrea added the finishing touch to ensure Mossley went back to The Glade with the points in the bag. This win has now opened up a six point gap between the teams. Mossley will hope they can carry this momentum and test Instonians this coming Saturday in round two of the Irish Senior Cup

NICS 2 (Chris Barnes, Peter Johnston) Kilkeel 2 (Keith Bingham, Michael Pabloth)
This hard fought draw now sees both these teams sitting at the top of the Ulster Premier League with seven points each after four games. Kilkeel would probably have settled for a draw pre-game and this tie also has the upshot of easing further away from North Down and laying a potential platform to threaten the big five. Service’s goals came from Chris Barnes and Peter Johnston and Kilkeel replied with goals from Keith Bingham and Michael Pabloth. Service will surely enter this Saturday’s ISC game away to Belfast Harlequins as favourites .
