Frazer’s University of Maryland got the better of Liz McInernery’s Syracuse at the quarter-final stage with a 2-1 extra-time win. Syracuse had previously ended the run of the Richmond Spiders for whom Limerick’s Rebecca Barry lined out in the last 16. Loughran was part of the University of North Carolina Tarheels who beat Ohio State and University of Michigan last weekend to claim their final four place.
** Andy McConnell (pictured) scored a late goal to earn a 3-3 draw for Hurley against Oranje Zwart in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. Speaking to hockey.nl about the result, an overjoyed McConnell said it was not the side’s best performance but they managed to salvage the result: “This is definitely a point to celebrate. After going 3-1 behind to OZ, we picked it up again and threw everything into the battle. You should never give up. This is hockey, it’s not the first time a match has changed in the last minute.”
