Glenanne – Women’s Division One

Last Season: Eighth, Division One

Coach: Dean Maguire (1st season)

Players In: Cathy Brock (Bray), Catherine Murray (Bray), Lucy Small (Trinity)
Players Out: none

Summary: Bray’s demise has seen some of their big names looking for pastures new and Glenanne have picked up two high quality additions from the situation. Catherine Murray is a diamond when available and renews a working relationship with new coach Dean Maguire from her UCD days back in 2003.

Cathy Brock and Trinity woman Lucy Small are also significant imports but, as usual, the Glens multi-talented players can see more than their share of dual commitments. For instance, Mary Waldron – one of the side’s top performers last season – has an international cricket schedule to fulfil as does Claire Shillington. Paula Fitzpatrick has been aiding Leinster women’s rugby cause through the interpro series in recent weeks that also limits her involvement in parts.

Ali Shaw is set for a mid-October return to action which is a plus while Jennifer Rynne, a Leinster U-18 panelist, is one of a couple of teenagers with a year more experience under their belt.

Maguire will work with Noel Keogh for the season, the coaching legend adding the weight of numerous Leinster senior interpro campaigns as well as winning a wealth of titles with the men’s side.

They open with a tune-setter against Corinthian with much of preseason spent focussing on working combinations rather than worrying about results. Corners are usually well executed at Glenanne Park with Kate O’Connor often the striker while Dearbhla Kieran captains the side. Like Trinity, there aim is likely to be close the gap to the top five.

Early season fixtures
First Leinster league games: Sept 17 vs Corinthian (a); Sept 24 vs Old Alex (h); Oct 1 vs Railway Union (h)
Irish Senior Cup: bye to round two
