News in brief: Irish U-18s face off with France

** Ireland’s U-18 girls will play a three game series against France this weekend in Belfield as part of their build-up to the European Championships which get underway on July 12 in Utrecht, Netherlands. They start off on Friday evening, tipping off at 5pm and will play again on Saturday at the same time before finishing the series on Sunday at 1pm.

** Clontarf ladies are seeking a first team coach for the upcoming 2011-2012 season. All applications should be sent to Rachel at Please include a brief coaching resume and details of your coaching qualifications.

** Expressions of interest are sought from Irish clubs looking to take part in 1st World Vintage Hockey Carnival in Barbados in October 2012. The event is aimed at players aged 35 and over who still love the game but are not necessarily playing at a competitive level.

The competition will be hosted on a mixture of grass (at the famous Kensington Oval grounds) and artificial pitches, and is being organised by Ricky Clarke, a key player in the running of the Banks International Tournament for a number of years.
