Donabate Jamboree draws huge turnout

The first of a series of Leinster Branch U-12 Jamborees took place last Sunday at the Fingal County Council sports Hall at Donabate as part of the development committee’s endeavours to support clubs with small numbers.

The idea of the jamborees is to help clubs who cannot yet field a full team by offering a way of keeping the players in the sport with players turning up as individuals rather than teams.

The initiative is aimed at boys in particular but girls are welcome. The first such event was indoors in the excellently appointed hall with full sideboards and international standard goals at Donabate.

Organisers were delighted as a much larger than expected turn-out of 32 players took in a two-hour session with matches, coaching and more matches.

Donabate’s hall also provided comfortable seating in the viewing gallery and warm premises for parents to take in what was an enjoyable event.

Adrian Henchy was among the chief organisers while coaching was provided by Nasir Munir, Mukhtar Ahmed, Fran Hegarty, Damian and IHA regional development officer Lucas Piccioli in what looks to be a strong initiative to promote the sport.
