Women’s Division One
Bray 2 (Linda O’Neill, Jessica Carey) Corinthian 1 (Sarah Smith)
Bray picked up their first win of the season as Jessica Carey’s second goal of the season took the points in Co Wicklow this afternoon from a fairly even tie. Linda O’Neill scored the only goal of the first half after a couple of penalty corners, neatly working a one-two at the top and then firing home.
But Corinthian got back into the game with a goal from Sarah Smith in the second period.
Bray got back on top, though, and got their winner when Catherine Murray worked the initial opening from which Carey scored to lift them up to seventh in the standings.
Glenanne 2 (Dearbhla Kieran 2) Hermes 3 (Laura Pinder 2, Kerry McComish)
Glenanne made Hermes work for every inch but two late goals from St Andrew’s schoolgirl Laura Pinder denied the Tallaght club a famous win.
They led early when Dearbhla Kieran rounded off a baseline move but they were pegged back when Kerry McComish swept home a corner via a deflection.
A 45th minute corner, Kieran again on the mark, restored the advantage and the Glens looked on course to frustrate Hermes with Susan Byrne impressing between the posts as the pressure mounted.
But Pinder was twice in the right place at the right time to save Hermes and keep their 100pc record going, first off getting a touch to Eimear Horan’s assist and then grabbing the winner from Sinead McCarthy’s pass.
