Pembroke profit from big HGC win

Pembroke’s place in the KO16 round was confirmed as HGC’s emphatic 9-2 win over Olimpia Kolos Sekvoia guaranteed them at least second place in Pool F with a shot-to-nothing against the Dutch side on Sunday.

Despite injuries to Argentinean stars Rodrigo and Lucas Vila, the Hague side were in stunning form as they bid to return to the final which they reached in 2008.

Australian Brent Dancer opened the scoring and they scarcely looked back with Timmo Kranstauber scoring the second just on quarter-time.

Four more followed in the second period before Sekvoia salvaged some pride when Artem Oserskyi slammed one home but two more goals ended the third quarter at 8-1.

Kranstauber’s second of the day completed his side’s scoring while Mykhailo Iasinskyi’s late consolation was possibly the best goal of the game.

It leaves Pembroke with a free run at HGC tomorrow without the pressure to secure a result. Meanwhile, Ronan Gormley’s Club de Campo claimed their place in the knock-out phases as they beat RC Bruxelles to qualify along with Rott-Weiss Koln.

Stephen Butler and Eugene Magee will also be there as their KHC Dragons went through courtesy of UHC Hamburg’s big win over Izmaylovo Moscow.

Pool F standings: 1. HGC 5pts (+7) 2. Pembroke 5pts (+1) 3. Olimpia Kolos Sekvoia 1pt (-7)
