Summary: Hermes proved the most active in the transfer market this summer, benefitting from the CPP and the move from Cork of Sinead McCarthy and Audrey O’Flynn to bolster the backline.
Sinead Connery joins sisters Aine and Fiona in the squad while Lisa Jacob returns to the club from UCD. Kerry McComish is another big acquisition, the Ulster defender joining her fifth club having played in Leinster with Trinity, Pembroke and UCD.
Eimear Horan is another well-travelled newcomer, coming from Ards, and Galway girl Katie Codyre – an Irish U-18 international – who has taken up a degree in DCU.
It’s a formidable list of new arrivals to go with a well-established squad. Jenny Kinch is back training, too, while Jenny Burke might also be back in the frame mid-season but Aoife Harte is one player taking time out.
Gillian Pinder and Deirdre Duke’s Leaving Certificates might also reduce their involvements to some extent while Irish internationals Chloe Watkins and Niamh Atcheler will play their student hockey with UCD.
Laura Gray and Emma Russell – from last year’s Leinster U-16 cup winning team – have been added to the panel which will miss out on five players at times under the CPP guidelines.
Former Irish captain Mary Logue takes over from Dutchman Eric Fintelman who returns to Holland after a fruitful interim period as coach but silverware is the aim after last season’s blank – missing out in the latter stages of the IHL, Leinster League and Jacqui Potter Cup.
With their squad, it looks very much a likely possibility.
First three games: Pembroke (h); Old Alex (h); Trinity (a)
