U-17 Youth Olympics: Ireland 0 Argentina 3 (Agustina Alvarez, Rocio Broccoli, Eugenia Garrafo)
Ireland have been left with a simple equation if they are to stay in the hunt for a bronze medal after their third defeat of the Youth Olympics in Singapore as Argentina continued their 100pc record to date.
The girls in green must pick up wins over both Korea and South Africa in their final two games to earn a shot at the third/fourth place playoff game after another lively performance was not rewarded with points on the board.
Katie Mullan missed out on the clearest chance of the early stages as a hard pressing game denied Argentina open country, frustrating the South Americans, while Jenna Holmes pulled off a string of saves.
But Las Leonas eventually broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Agustina Alvarez netted a corner rebound for the only goal of the half.
Corners, again, would prove their undoing in the second period as Rocio Broccoli smashed a second effort into the bottom right corner and while Ireland never stopped battling, the Argentine side defended smartly and picked off a third goal 28 seconds from time through Eugenia Garrafo’s corner effort.
