Corinthian edge seven goal thriller

Men’s Division One
Monkstown 3 (Gareth Watkins 3) Corinthian 4 (Davy Carson 2, Darren Kimfley, Rowland Rixon-Fuller)
On a day when South African Matt Fairweather made his debut for the Town and Darren Kimfley returned to Corinthian’s ranks, it was the more established African player in Ireland, Rowland Rixon-Fuller from Zimbabwe who was the game-breaker. Gareth Watkins hat-trick had tied the game up at 3-3 with seven minutes to go. It had earlier been tied at 2-2 with the reds scoring a penalty corner on the half-time hooter.

Fingal 0 TRR 1 (Garry Ringwood ps)
Three Rock keep their 100pc record in tact by scraping to a 1-0 win at ALSAA. Garry Ringwood’s penalty stroke was the difference between the sides in a game where Sven Galjaardt made his debut after injury had previously curtailed his involvement.

Railway Union 2 (Karl Chapple, Peter English) Clontarf 0
Two corner goals from Railway Union bagged three home points at Park Avenue with Karl Chapple scoring for the first time since his summer move from Avoca from a corner rebound. Peter English netted a drag-flick to make it 2-0 and secure the points. Clontarf remain without a point to date.

UCD 1 (Tim Hill) YMCA 3 (Mikey Fry, David Robinson, Andy Walker)
YM picked up their first win of the league campaign as they recovered from an early set-back to win 3-1. UCD took the lead from a neat corner move, switching left before angling a pass to the right post for a deflection. But Mikey Fry chipped over Ross Gribben from close range to level and David Robinson’s excellent solo run and shot made it 2-1 by the break. Andy Walker struck soon after the break to kill off a bit of the bite in the game as YM held the ball reasonably well from then on after a very tight first half scrap.
